Shot this tree outside Carlow last year with Rapeseed in the field (http://pix.ie/lifebythedrop/990228) so I decided to shoot it again yesterday on my way back from Dublin. This year there's Barley/Wheat (not sure which) and Poppy's in the field. Processed in CS4, original shot here: http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z9/Critical_Solution/IMG_6006-1.jpg
Beautiful
Thanks Man.
:)
like this one.....
Thanks a lot Ger, appreciate that. :)
magnificent mick! MOOI.
next time we drive to rosslare i'll watch out for this famous tree. greetz from an infamous tree
Thanks a million Aafke. When your driving to Rosslare next time make sure you DON'T take the Carlow bypass as you'll miss the location of the tree if you do. You have to go through the town and its on your left hand side just outside Carlow as your heading in the Waterford direction!
Mick :)
you read my thoughts, was going to ask you for directions :-þ we'd be on the N80 driving south (sometime come september)
Super image indeed Mick.
Thanks Paul, appreciate it man!
a real beaut,lovely
Thank you John. :)
Beautiful shot! Really very very nice!
PS: Did Paul get his WELL DESERVED pints this weekend?
Thanks very much Kathleen, very glad you like it.
Unfortunately Paul couldn't make it Kathleen so I just had to have them for him instead. Lol. ;)
It's great!
hahaha you're obviously a very very good friend, always willing to make sacrifices for your friends... :-)))
Ha Ha, thats me Kathleen -Very thoughtful like that. :))
Mh I'm veeeery impressed :-)))
may i join the conversation..? mick just agreed that he doesn't mind lifting the odd pint occasionaly ( must have been quite hard to lift those few extra ones, i'm afraid)
Really hard indeed ;-) but for Paul he obviously went the extra mile this weekend...
To be honest I went a few extra miles on it this weekend, it was quarter past 6 when we left the pub on Sunday morning! :)
That's a good time actually. Well done to you ;-)
I was quite proud!!
hahaha I love it to go home at this time with the birds singing and all...
Yeah, its a nice feeling going home when its bright outside and the birds are singing IF you don't have to check out of your hotel in a few hours!! Lol, Not good!!!
you must have got terrible muscle aches from all the extra miles on top of all the lifting you'd already been doing....
Maybe that's his new fitness regime...
well.. i'm glad he got out of the car, the bus or the backseat to get this beautipic anyway.
Lol, thanks aafke. :)
was logging out and this very pic passed on the pixie main page. that goes to show!
Brilliant shot, again,
Great shot Mick.
You've been Twittered: http://twitter.com/pixie/status/3120766846
Thank you very much for the Tweet! Totally unexpected and a great way to start the week!
it might have been totally unexpected for you, it wasn't for kathleen and me i suppose.
That's very true aafke! That was one of the first thoughts that crossed my 'slightly intoxicated' mind last night. I had just come home from being wined and dined by friends when I saw the shot. Pretty wined actually... But I still thought the same this morning :)
twixie is early today. Well done on the TOTD Mick
Wow! Stunning shot.
Well done on the TOTD. nice to see this tree from a different angle & perspective. I knew I should went up that way instead of Woodstock.
Thanks Trish, its a pity you didn't go alright, the sky was great!
Was the vintage car rally good? Any good shots?
That was Sunday. I was there Monday, missed it :(
congratz mick! you saw it coming, didn't you! (btw.that last comment 9hrs ago, was mine,i already logget out)
Genuinely had no idea Aafke, and thank you again.
Well done Mick...plenty for the camera club in a few weeks time.
Hey Mick congrats on the tweety!!
Excellent picture of the field
Really good shot and congrats on the totd
Class photo...really like it.
Another great shot of that tree. I was up and down there twice over the weekend and couldn't find it - at least I know where to look now!
Thanks everyone for the lovely comments, I really appreciate them.
This was the perfect way to round off an already perfect Metallica weekend!!!
Mick! :)))
no metallically shots?
No Aafke, didn't bring my camera. Wouldn't risk it at a Metal gig like that in case anything happened to it.
Anyway, I was too drunk to be responsible for it all day! lol (fun)
Great shot, great processing. Congrats on the TOTD
Lovely shot!!
Thank you Adrian & Dink (hope thats not your real name) :))) Much appreciated guys.
It's been done (possibly over done) but this is an amazing shot,There isn't anything i would change about it,The flowers in front add to the mood
Thanks very much for the great comment Richard, I got some C&C on this shot on another photography website and it was suggested that the poppys in the foreground are very distracting and the eye never leaves them. Also between seeing the poppys and the sky you completely miss the tree. It was suggested to me that I clone or crop out some of the poppys?
Personally I like it but these are more advanced photographers than me so I presume they know what they're talking about, but I do like it the way it is.
I've noticed as you advance in photography the more "technical" you get :) So they may be right technically speaking,But i think it's perfect the way it is...
I've even noticed this with some of my shots from 2 years or 3 years ago,I was thinking "Why didn't i crop that out?" and i'm sure back then i was delighted with it :)
It's all majorly down to personal preference at the end of the day.
Brilliant shot Mick, great DOF.
Thanks Terry. Good to see you here on Pixie!!!
Mick.
Great composition, color & mood. PS. What will happen if this tree is ever cut down ? it could be the start of WW3 !! ;)
Cutting down the tree. I don't think that will ever happen. This field used to be two fields and the farmer took the row of trees and hedge that ran up the middle and left just that one tree. We all seem to like photo it.
does anyone know what kind of a tree it is or did none ever venture that close?
Hi Aafke, I'm not 100% but I think its an Oak. I'll have a closer look the next time! LOL
if it's along the N80 i'll have a look meself next month.
(it's probably is an oak, because it was left standing as davidlawlor explained)
btw. LOL is an existing dutch word, meaning FUN
We hadden lol.... (see I remember)
wij ook! (=so had we!)
more magic
What an amazing piece of art !
Thank you, I really appreciate that, kind words indeed.
Like that one as well, less dramatic and a mayby a bit more pure. Leaving the leaves out was a good idea, methinks, master M.
Beautiful pic Mick. Well done on another TOTD! Love the pp. Great to see the original too. Helps us beginners :)
Thanks very much Louise, I really appreciate that.
btw, I'm still very much a beginner also.
A very talented beginner all the same :)
Oh I wouldn't agree with that Louise, but very nice of you to say so all the same. Your very kind!
Thank You ;)
A classic. Congrats!
Amazing shot!
nice is cs4 much better than cs3
Thanks for the comment. I actually never used cs3, I went from cs2 to cs4. I've noticed a few nice differences but nothing major. I don't do anything too technical with photoshop and the stuff I use in cs4 was there in cs2 but I do know a graphic designer who uses it everyday as part of her job and she reckons its much better.
WOW
Thanks Tony!
As they say in Carlow - "savage shot!" :D
This is the ultimate proof that trees don't walk away :-)
very beautifull shot
Thank you very much. (and thanks for the add).
Jeez ure on a roll!
I'm embarrased to keep commenting on each picture,
Thanks very much Janer, really appreciate the comments man.
Here goes again but what a wonderful capture! Bales should appear around the tree today (5.9.09) or as soon as farmer is able. Some bales already on RHS of field and should be great photo opportunity for imaginative photographers to come and pay homage to Carlow's amazing icon. Paul
Hey Paul, thanks very much for the comments. I have a couple of shots of this tree now but I'd love one with bales. I might have to pop up tomorrow for a luck. Hopefully the farmer is busy baling today!!! lol.
Love this shot Mick.
Noel
Thanks a lot Noel, glad you like it.
Now thats a wall hanger!
Thanks for the kind words Shay.
Fab, Im only down the road from this tree and still havent photographed it. Dont think I could ever take one as good as this.
Thank you very much. I think now would be a good time to have a go. I was there on Sunday evening and the farmer had just started baling as I was leaving. The feild should be full of round bales now.
Thats well processed mick, you have brought out the details nicely
Thanks very much Conor.
Good atmosphere in this shot, I really must visit it again
Great photo and thanks for putting the links to the other versions, inspiration for beginners to see what can be done!
Thanks a lot.
This is really gorgeous.
A superb shot Mick, well done. You mentioned some people sugested cloning and cropping,in my opinion a photo is a moment in time as is,when doctored it's no more real than a painting.Maybe that's why mine are not very good..lol..Once again,a truely great shot Mick.
shooks rubycard that they seem to have disappeared, this is such a great shot
beautiful!
Incredible shot...
wow, another one on pixie's shortlist09!

Love the details that you brought out ..the contrast and colours are beautiful
A great shot, I have taken pics of this tree so many times.
