Fiona - You are right on all accounts, it is very noisey, is on purpose and the birdie is out of focus.

It was taken at 4:58 (don't ya love exif) on a really foggy afternoon in late November so light levels dropped through the floor. It was also taken handheld. The iso was up/shutter speeds barely acceptable/and continuous focus struggled a little in the conditions (fog/low light/low contrast scene).

I've actually brought the noise out a little more with processing :)

A great contrast to the highly coloured christmas shots of late. The grainy texture is a real plus for me. We get so used to looking at sharp images it's refreshing to see this one. Very well done.
