All OK: I was searching them through "photos of the week", but they where uploaded exactly one week ago. So today there were removed from the "weekly" section.

@Marcus, you said: "In brief, the ranking system on Pixie does not correspond to the selection process for winning photos in the Guinness Storehouse competition"

It says on Guiness website:
"Each month a winner will be selected as voted by the public. "

So it does matter, does it?

The date is taken as the date the photo was added to the competition. Your photos seem to have been added in Feb.

Hi Cash,

The judges are finding it hard to pick a winner for January, with so many great entries, but we can tell you that the winner will be announced very very soon.

Thanks for sharing your experience,

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your note.

If your photos were not obviously related to the Guinness Storehouse, it is highly likely that they have already been removed from the competition by the group moderators.

We look forward to seeing your actual Guinness Storehouse shots and good luck in the competition!

Marcus

@Salubri I won't go into too much detail on this topic here as this is the wrong forum for this particular discussion.

In brief, the ranking system on Pixie does not correspond to the selection process for winning photos in the Guinness Storehouse competition. Our understanding is that photos will be judged independently by the promoters.

Voting is only one of many metrics that are considered when Pixie calculates the score for a given image. The ranking algorithm is constantly tuned and we don't disclose how it works in order to protect against attempts to game the system.

All photos start off with a vote of 2.5 (the mid range). Voting lower than that indicates you don't like the photo and voting higher indicates that you do. You can update your vote at any time by simply voting again...

This is an interesting point... The "voting" mechanism is in fact (to my understanding - correct me if I'm wrong Marcus) actually a "graded favourites" tool (hence people can favourite their own images). What I'm wondering then is how does the tally work...Is a 1 a "vote down" or a "like it but it ain't great"?

I've noticed that (at least in my "best photos" list) pics with no votes are graded at 2 and a half stars (visually anyway) but are ranked below pics with 1 vote of 2 stars... This would indicate that a vote / (someone favouriting your image) ranks it higher than if no one likes it at all... Somewhat counter intuitively though pics with a single "one star" vote are ranked bottom... What is the curve? Does 0 votes mean neutral and 2+ is positive while 1 is negative?

I'd guess it's something like "average of all votes for the image plus a fractional bonus for the number of times it has been favourited or voted on"... But I'm not sure if that's the best mechanic for competetive voting... If 100 people don't like one of my pics and "down-vote" it as 1 it shouldn't score better than a pic that has had one 1 star vote should it?

Marcus - can we have a method to "un-star" a pic we have already starred - or change our vote (I was on autopilot and gave one of mine 5 stars then promptly guilted over it for half an hour! *grin*)...

I'd agree 100% - however the limitation of not being able to upload all your photos and then submit 1 or 2 a day is a bit restrictive... I get a chance about once a week to upload a bunch of pics on a fast connection - the rest of the time I'm crawling on my home connection (which is not nearly as fast as it should be).

I'd much rather see everyone able to upload a pile of photos and do a "trickle" submission... (As Marcus has mentioned, an "Add to group" button would be ideal...

Hi DigitalExplorer!

Pixie allows users to vote on their own photos. This is by design.

The storehoue sits in a vast area of 'Guiness' infrastructure, walking to the store house is the only way to really experience the 'Guiness' theme, my ha'penny worth is that these fantastic buldings in the area should be considered for the contest.
