Irish Deaf Kids, which supports inclusive education for deaf children, recently launched a bright, funky 2009 calendar with the top photos from its Kids “In Action” competition.

The competition, which was hosted on Pixie during the year, enabled IDK to create a level field for deaf and hearing people to show their ability through a visual medium. Awareness of deaf children in Ireland was also raised as entrants visited multiple areas of the irishdeafkids.ie website.

Caroline from the Irish Deaf Kids has asked if we will help get the word out to people who might like to buy calendars as presents for Christmas and we are more than happy to support this worthy cause! Two calendar formats are available to buy, a regular calendar with one square per day for reminders and appointments, and a family organiser with space for up to five people. The calendar is available to buy in various outlets or can be ordered by emailing info@irishdeafkids.ie or writing to Irish Deaf Kids, Terenure Enterprise Centre, 17 Rathfarnham Road, Dublin 6W. Cost: EUR 10 per calendar, plus EUR 1.25 p&p for the first item and EUR 0.70 per additional item.

Irish Deaf Kids is a "for-impact" venture aimed at supporting inclusive education for deaf children in Ireland while enabling parents to help their child reach their full potential. The Kids "In Action" photo project supports our goal of inclusive education by creating a level field for deaf and hearing people to show their ability through a visual medium. IDK also seeks to raise awareness about the different ways in which deaf people communicate, to link the deaf and hearing communities through projects and to 'demystify' deafness.
