Photos - Find Out What You Can Do!

  1. What are albums?

Albums on Pixie are exactly the same as albums you might use at home with printed photos. Albums should contain photos from the same event: birthday, party or holiday for example.

  2. What are tags?

Tags are like keywords, they enable you to associate a word with a photo. Tags are different from albums in that you should use tags to describe "the photo" itself rather than "the event" where it was taken. Descriptions could include: who is in the photo, what is the photo of, where it was taken etc. If this all sounds like a lot of work, trust us... once you've tagged all your photos, you will be able to view all the photos of, for instance, a particular person, "John", all the photos taken in "Merrion Square". The other fascinating thing about tags is that lots of people will use the same tag to describe different photos, so viewing all the photos taken on a particular day at Dublin zoo becomes a possibility! So please tag your photos!

  3. What are groups?

Groups contain one or more Pixie members. They are a way of grouping your contacts into categories. Pixie provides standard groups for you to use and these include "Family", "Friends", "Work" and "Other".

  4. What are permissions?

Permissions give you control over who has access to your photos and what can be done with your photos. For each photo, you can control exactly who can:

    • View it
    • Leave Comments on It
    • Add or remove tags on it
    • Add or remove it from folders

Permissions are group based, meaning that if you give your "Friends" permissions on a photo, then all the Pixie members who are in your "Friends" group will get this permission. Adding more members to a group or removing members from a group also gives or takes away their permissions.

  5. How can I share my photos with others?

When you upload photos you will be given the option to set the privacy for all the photos being uploaded. You can change your mind about who can see what photos at any time! Just click on the photo and change the share settings to whatever you want, whenever you want!

  6. Is there a limit on how many photos I can upload?

There is no limit on the number of photos you can upload. We do however limit the amount of bandwidth you may consume during the upload process. This limit is known as your "Quota" and quotas are reset back to 500MB every month. Photos will be automatically resized and stored on our servers. Resized photos will never be deleted by us.

  7. Can other people download my photos?

If your images are set with the ‘private’ privacy setting then only those who you give access to your images can download them. If you choose the ‘public’ privacy setting, then yes, others can download your images.

  8. How can I remove tags from a photo?

On your account page, in the tag panel, beside each tag word is a [x] icon. To remove a tag from a photo, simply click this icon.

  9. Can I rotate a photo?

Sure you can. Below each photo is a rotate button. Simply click this icon and it will ask what direction you would like to rotate the image.

  10. Can someone who is not a contact view my photos?

The only way someone who is not a personal contact of yours can view your images is if you have set your photos with the ‘public’ privacy setting. If a friend of yours is not yet a member and you would like them to view your ‘private setting’ photos, then you must invite them to join you as a contact. This is simply done by creating a contact.

  11. How do I create an album?

As you upload batches of photos, you can either create a new album to contain your photos or select an existing album.

  12. How do I delete photos from an album?

Click in to the photo you wish to remove. On the left in the navigation pane there is a list of the albums the photo is in. Beside each album name there is a grey delete button "[x]". Click to remove the photo from the album.
