thanks for the comments. I had the camera [Canon 40D] set to shoot hi-speed (6.5 frames per second) and I burned through hundreds of frames before this sequences. The is was the best of them - I knew it as I took it - it looked like a huge explosion. Luckily, it happened during the one 10 minute spell when the driving rain had stopped and it almost seemed like summer!
