Yes in the cold air at least you could not smell them ... but it was a very macarbre scene indeed against such a beautiful backdrop..

Yeah ... apart from a little bit of cross processing to make it even cooler than it was (and it was very very cold that day, my water bottle in the car was a brick after leaving it over night) ... it all real ... just frost ...

I'll miss you Danny ... I know you were particularly proud of this shot, and you had every reason to be ...

Thanks for your friendship ... and the many great memories ... somehow the Lighthouse Cafe won't be the same without you ... I'll pay a visit to Valentia Island later in the year to remember you properly...

Hmnn interesting  ... the photo is straight ... but (and I agree) it does not look straight ... my problem is if I straighten I think it removes perspective and puts the horizon dead across the middle ... what to do!!

Thanks Giles ... to be honest I don't think nice saturated colours go with the setting either ... it is a bleak existence that the people of Mukuru slum are forced to endure, though they do manage to find happines in their own way ... but pretty pictures of kids don't tell the story properly nor do they express the way I experienced it ...

I promised I would tell the story as I saw it ...

Thanks ... its a toss up between this one and the other one of the child with the lollypop as to which is my own personal favorite of the set ...

Thanks ... It was a combination of a holiday and accompanying my friend who is involved in www.camara.ie ... so a a healthy dose of reality...

I still need to write up the rest of the blog ... which to be honest is more focussed around typical holiday stuff ... though I also had the honour of visiting some of the schools Camara is involved in providing PC's ... so there are more interesting stories to come ... though not quite as interesting as this ... except the last day, which for me was the highlight, back in Mukuru slum at a school helped by www.suas.ie ... http://www.gatoto.org/ ... where I met Betty, perhaps one of the most amazing people I will ever meet.

The railway line is built by the British to link Nairobi to Mombassa incidents in Tsavo involving two man eating lions during the building of which was the subject of the movie "Ghost and the darkness"
