Women often struggle to be seen and recognised as authorities. This is true in the blogsphere as well, but your blog is one place where you can work effectively to position yourself as an authority on a particular topic.
Studies show that “the perception of leadership as masculine also has consequences for how women think about themselves as potential leaders; for example, they often feel less confident and comfortable in a leadership position than do men (van Engen et al., 2001).”
Given that, self-assignment as an authority is even more uncomfortable for many women. But it is critical in the blogsphere. The internet is not a corporate hierarchy. Nobody is going to give you a promotion and hand you a snazzy new title, no matter how well earned.
