Thanks PQuigley - I believe the shot was taken at 1/2500th of a second (using the "more properties" tab myself ;) ) You need to adjust speeds depending on distance from the object. Here, the gull was 5-6 metres from my face, if it were further away I'm not sure even 1/2500 would have stopped the wing motion completely.

Both! I was on the session afterwards - and my arse muscles are still hurting (don't know what exercise requires those muscles!)
