I like it rolling with the arrows. One of my rules for the 365 photos was "bar cropping, no processing" otherwise they won't be uploaded.

Besides, don't know how to do it in gimp (actually there are a lot of things I would love to learn how to apply in gimp)

I think I got the dying technique right in the description. The mix of brown and red is hard to replicate.

The light had a lot to do with it. I wonder if I should make people hungry now?
